What are the differences between the Hayate in the anime and in the manga? These are listed below:

1. Hayate's personality pretty much remains the same, except he doesn't fully develop and realize for Himeno as of yet, due to the fact he does not wish to repeat his 'mistake' he made with the previous Pretear
2. In the past, Hayate knew Himeno as a little girl, helping her find her way home when she was lost. Whether this was a reason he did not return Takako's feelings is unkown
