The name of "Hayate" translates into "Violent winds" or "Raging winds," which fits in nicely with the fact he is the Liefe Knight of Wind, thus controlling the power of gusts of wind. This also can explain some points of his personality. He is a cold person in general, or at least to those who he doesn't like. His actions and feelings can change quickly in a short amount of time, which can be a metaphor for "Violent Winds", meaning a violent change, perhaps.
